Italian Political Thriller '1992' to Premiere Across Sky's Five Markets

Following on the heels the crime-drama Fortitude, Italian political thriller 1992 is set to become the second show to launch simultaneously across all five Sky markets in 2015. The show will receive its world premiere Monday In Berlin
and debut March 24 on Sky Atlantic HD in Austria, Germany and Italy, and Sky Arts in the U.K. and Ireland.

Sky Italia is in full production mode after the success of their Naples mafia-drama Gomorrah, the highest rated series ever on the channel, which sold to over 100 territories, including to the Weinstein Company in the U.S. They’re producing the 10-episode season along with Italian company Wildside. Beta Film, which also handled the Gomorrah deals, handled sales for the 1992 cross-channel deal.

Gary Davey, managing director of content at Sky said of the announcement, “This is another breakthrough series from the ‘old world’ from the new European Sky family."

Based on an idea by actor Stefano Accorsi, 1992 looks at one of Italy’s many tumultuous political periods when several politicians and public figures were accused of corruption during the Mani Pulite ("Clean Hands") investigation. Thousands of Italians were people were charged, leading to many of the accused committing suicide and the collapse of the First Republic.

In addition to Accorsi, the show also stars Guido Caprino, Domenico Diele, Miriam Leone, Tea Falco and Alessandro Roja navigating multiple story lines involving characters across mafia, police, and politics.
